Book on the Life of Sean Hogan

Well known Borrisoleigh historian and member of Tipperary in the Decade of Revolution, John Connors, is currently putting the finishing touches to a biography of Sean Hogan. In compiling this book, John has had unprecedented access to Hogan family papers and this book narrates in graphic detail the dramatic life of this Irish folk hero. Told with a master storyteller’s intuition and a keen eye for the human condition, the book gives an insight into what it was like to live in the shadow of one’s legendary exploits and the toll it took on family life. Hogan was one of the group of IRA men involved in the seizure of gelignite at Soloheadbeg, Co Tipperary on 21 January 1919. He was subsequently captured and shot to national prominence following his dramatic rescue from a Cork-bound train at Knocklong Station. Already, there is strong pre-publication interest in the book and it is sure to sell out quickly. Keep an eye to this page for information on ordering copies of the book which we will have available shortly. Official launch of the book takes place in the Excel Centre, Tipperary Town, 11 April.
